Info session & kickoff

Thursday, November 5 · 6:30 PM · on Zoom

A school-wide parent and PTSA member meeting to kick off Give Miami Day 2026. Give Miami Day is a new focus for Leewood and the PTSA's primary fundraising effort this year. It lets Leewood take part in Miami's community-wide day of giving on Thursday, November 19, while taking advantage of the matching funds and special programs that come with it.

For our students, the PTSA will have gifts, parties and awards, and they get more exciting the more we raise. Come learn about the program and how you can participate and get involved. We hope to see you there.

01

How it works

Give Miami Day is a county-wide day of giving run by The Miami Foundation, where local nonprofits, school PTSAs included, raise money online and can earn bonus dollars that stretch every gift further. This is Leewood's primary fundraising event this year, and our second year taking part. We need all students, parents, abuelos, teachers, and community members to help make it a success!

Resources

See below for a list of links. Use the main school link, or your student's teacher if you know it. We have also supplied sample text messages, emails, and social media posts you can copy and paste to help spread the word!

03

Prizes

All funds go straight to the PTSA to support the school and for fun student prizes and activities! The more we raise, the more the students get, so be on the lookout for the official list of prizes.

Hi friends and family!!

It's Give Miami Day, and I'm asking you to support something important to our family: Leewood K-8 Center!

My kids spend so much of their lives at school, and I'm grateful for the teachers, experiences, and community that help them learn and grow. I want every child to have access to a great public education, and that takes support from all of us.

Would you consider making a donation to Leewood? Gifts start at $25, and whatever you're comfortable giving would mean a lot to our family and our school community.

Subject: A quick ask for Give Miami Day (and does our company match?)

Hi [NAME],

It's Give Miami Day and I'm supporting Leewood K-8 Center's PTSA, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit (EIN 23-7628483). The funds go straight to teachers, classrooms, and student programs.

Two quick ways you could help:
1. Make a gift (starting at $25): [CLASS LINK]
2. Many employers match charitable gifts dollar for dollar. If ours does, a match would double the impact at no extra cost to you.

Interested in a corporate, in-kind, or larger gift? Our treasurer would love to talk: [email protected]

Thank you,

Tips for Leewood families

A few notes from the Give Miami Day committee to help you get started. You don't have to be a professional fundraiser. The most meaningful messages come from you.

  1. 1. Make it personal

You don't have to be a professional fundraiser! The most meaningful messages come from sharing why Leewood matters to your family. Talk about a teacher who has made a difference, a program your child loves, or why you chose our school. A personal story can be much more powerful than a generic fundraising request.

  2. 2. Start with the people who know you best

Think about family, friends, coworkers, neighbors, and anyone who cares about your children. These are the people who may be most willing to support something that matters to your family. You don't have to reach hundreds of people to make a difference.

  3. 3. Don't be afraid to ask!

People can't support our school if they don't know we're fundraising. It's okay to ask! You're inviting people to support your children, your school, and the future of public education. You might be surprised by who is happy to help.

  4. 4. Keep it simple

You don't need to write a long message. A few sentences explaining why you support Leewood, followed by the donation link, is enough. Use the sample messages provided, add a personal touch, and make them your own.

  5. 5. Share the link!

Every time you send a message or make a social media post, include your official Leewood Give Miami Day donation link: [CLASS LINK]. Consider sending a personal text to a few people, sharing a post on social media, or emailing family members who may want to participate.

  6. 6. Every donation counts

If you're able to donate, any gift of $25 or more is appreciated. If you aren't able to contribute financially, you can still help by sharing the donation link with others. Spreading the word is valuable, too!

  7. 7. Remember why we're doing this

Public schools serve children with different abilities, needs, and circumstances. Every child deserves access to a quality education and a place where they can learn and grow. Supporting Leewood is one way we can invest in our children's future and help our school community thrive.

  8. 8. Follow up and say thank you

If someone tells you they've donated, thank them! If a friend hasn't responded, a friendly reminder is fine. People are busy, and sometimes they simply forget. Keep it light and appreciative.

Ready?

Our goal is simple:
show up for our kids and our school.

You don't have to do everything. Just do what you can. Whether you donate, send a few texts, or share a post, every effort helps us build a stronger community around Leewood. Thank you for being part of the Leewood family.
